Why sustainability is so important to us

The success of a company is driven by the people who share one thing: common values. All employees of the uvex group are united by the desire for a livable future – especially in uncertain and challenging times like these. The more sustainably we think and act together, the more sustainably we can shape the future and continue our mission to protect people in work, sports, and leisure. By improving conditions for both people and nature, we ensure our long-term success.

What we established in 1926 continues today as we take responsibility and do what is right. Not for ourselves, but for future generations. By acting in a sustainable, social, and socially responsible way, by developing innovative products and services, and through our shared values, we not only strengthen the uvex group but also inspire people worldwide.

We do not shape the future through words, but through actions – consistently sustainable, step by step.
– Susann Schubert, Director CSR
uvex employee, Director of CSR

Our four focus areas

To further develop our sustainability goals, we asked ourselves how the uvex group can most effectively protect people and nature, and which measures are required to achieve this. Using a materiality analysis, we identified the four most relevant focus areas. In doing so, we defined how sustainability is lived at the uvex group today and in the future.

Ecological transformation

42% less CO₂ by 2030, significantly reduced water consumption, waste, and scrap. The uvex group has set ambitious goals and will be climate-neutral by 2045.

Recycled PET – next generation in the uvex surge carbon:

The uvex surge carbon sets new standards in resource conservation: for the first time, the interior padding is made entirely from 100% recycled PET monomaterial. In this way, we use recycled materials efficiently and create durable, high-quality solutions for sustainable sports products.

Safety shoes without added PFAS – ready for the future:

uvex Footwear has been fully switching to materials without intentionally added PFAS since November 2025 – significantly earlier than the EU regulation, which will come into effect in 2026. The new material solution was developed over 2.5 years, tested in more than 100 tests, and validated through 350 hours of wear trials. The result: maximum uvex quality, high safety – and a clear step towards more sustainable footwear solutions.

Sustainable solutions for clear vision:

For our prescription safety glasses, we use a high-quality, bio-based polyamide derived from castor oil – a rapidly renewable resource that does not compete with food production. The material offers excellent technical properties while also reducing our environmental footprint. This demonstrates that innovation and sustainability are not mutually exclusive – they reinforce each other.
