uvex group starts construction in Rednitzhembach: Symbolic groundbreaking ceremony for new logistics and service center

With a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony on September 27, 2021, the uvex group gave the starting signal for the construction of the new logistics and service center in Rednitzhembach, which is planned to be modern and sustainable. The building, which has been pre-certified by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB), will begin to take shape in the fall of 2021. The 35,000 square meters of space will include an automated high-bay warehouse, an automated small parts warehouse, logistics areas for order picking, incoming and outgoing goods, and high-quality of-fice and administration areas with a representative customer and visitor area. The construction project also includes a gatehouse and a parking garage.

Value-oriented growth possible thanks to new logistics site

"Fortunately, our business model of protecting people at work, in sports and in leisure is more relevant than ever," explains Michael Winter, managing partner of the family-owned company based in Fürth. "With today's symbolic groundbreaking ceremony in Rednitzhembach, we are continuing the uvex group's growth course in its home region, the Nuremberg metropolitan area. We are very pleased that we have found optimal conditions in the municipality of Rednitzhembach to set the course for a future-proof service and logistics solution." The new logistics site in Rednitzhembach will replace the existing uvex safety logistics center in Schwabach, whose warehouse capacities are increasingly being ex-hausted due to the Group's increased growth. Not only the employees already working in Schwabach are to be given a perspective at the new location in Rednitzhembach. In the long term, the uvex group expects to create many more attractive jobs for the region at the modernized logistics and service center. "The municipality of Rednitzhembach is already looking forward to an innovative and environmentally conscious company," said Jürgen Spahl, first mayor of the municipality of Rednitzhem-bach. "Cooperation has always been at eye level and in a good atmosphere. The new uvex group building will give Rednitzhembach its largest local company to date - a company that, above all, also offers high-quality jobs close to home."

DGNB "Gold" award for sustainable construction

The family-owned company placed particular emphasis on resource conservation and sustainability in planning. For the new building, the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) already granted a pre-certification in gold. "We are proud of the DGNB award," says Michael Winter. "After all, our commitment to act in a sustainable, socially and environmentally responsible manner is derived from our mission of protecting people. In the new construction of our logistics project, we set ourselves the goal of keeping our ecological footprint as small as possible." For example, heating and cooling for the building is generated from two woodchip boilers and a heat pump system with a probe field. A large part of the electricity requirement is covered by a photovoltaic system on the roof of the high-bay warehouse. With the construc-tion of the new logistics and service site, the uvex group is also building the order picking building and the gatekeeper building to the highly energy-efficient KfW40 standard. This means that they use 60% less energy than a standard new building. The construction project, including energy planning and construction supervision, was deliberately carried out with regional partners. The same also applies to the commissioning of all trades involved in construction.

The first work, including the installation of the floor slab, will take place in quarter 1 of 2022, with completion of the building planned for 2023.
