Two days dedicated to sustainability: on 1 and 2 July, the uvex group invited its approximately 1,000 employees to the first ‘sustainability days’ in the company's history at its headquarters in Fürth. The aim of the group of companies was to provide information about the sustainability strategy that has been consistently established for many years and sustainable product innovations, as well as to raise awareness of sustainability in everyday life.
Interested employees learnt what the uvex group is doing to reduce its ecological footprint, among other things, in digital sessions or workshops on site. They were able to choose from a variety of formats that took place throughout the day. The four focus areas of the uvex group - ecological transformation, social responsibility, circular economy as a driver of innovation and ecological & health safety - as well as the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) integrated into the group-wide sustainability strategy took centre stage. In addition, high-calibre guest speakers, including Werder Bremen football club, Albrecht Dürer Airport, POW and Hof University of Applied Sciences, provided exciting insights into their sustainability activities.
Kick-off on 1 July with uvex ride for kids
As part of the ‘uvex ride for kids’ campaign, which is now in its third year, all employees were invited to take sustainable action together by cycling to work on the first day of the event and collecting kilometres for a good cause. An impressive 5,000 euros were raised by almost 200 employees in bright sunshine. The uvex group donated 1 euro for every kilometre ridden to the Rainer Winter Foundation. The donation will benefit the KinderRadelSchule Nuremberg/Fürth. After crossing the finish line, participants could look forward to attractive bike-related offers on the company premises: in the service tent, employees could hand in their bikes for maintenance or have an ergonomics check carried out. In order to better protect their own bikes from theft, a bike coding service was organised together with the ADFC Nuremberg. Thomas Dreßen, the former top downhill skier, World Cup winner and winner on the Streif 2018, was invited as a guest and cycled an extra tour around Fürth with sports enthusiasts.
The uvex group sees the mission of protecting people not only as a claim for its products, but also as a mission and a great responsibility to protect society. The KinderRadelSchule Nuremberg/Fürth is now delighted to receive the sum of 5,000 euros. The programme is aimed specifically at primary school children and helps them to learn how to ride a bike so that they have the necessary prior knowledge for road safety education and can cycle independently and safely.
Integrating sustainability into business processes
"We integrate sustainability holistically into our processes," explained Michael Winter, Managing Partner of the uvex group. "Sustainable products with recycled content or the development of sustainable supplier management focussing on climate friendliness, social aspects and transparency are important steps in this direction. So are campaign days like the sustainability days! In this way, we share the progress we have made with our employees, but also communicate important future goals of our current sustainability strategy. The uvex ride for kids campaign shows how we live sustainability and also combines ecological, social and health-related commitment."
