Opening of the connecting building at BSA Obernzell
One year after the ground-breaking ceremony for the connecting building of our subgroup BSA Obernzell, the building was officially put into operation on 27 February 2019.
The BSA Obernzell success story has been going on for over 25 years and this step is intended to guarantee that it will continue in the future. At our location in Lower Bavaria, we produce bicycle helmets, riding helmets and ski helmets. We rely on production in Germany which is characterised by innovation, flexibility and speed and which we want to develop further. In order to be able to guarantee that our products will continue to be manufactured "Made in uvex", it is important to keep the BSA Obernzell location modern and competitive in the future. This is the only way to keep employees and motivate new employees to participate in our protecting people mission.
We would like to thank all those involved at BSA for their enormous commitment!
The uvex group is again on the podium!
In cooperation with the statistics portal Statista, the social media career network Xing and the rating platform kununu, Focus magazine identifies the best employers in Germany. For the 6th time in a row, the uvex group can look forward to outstanding placements.
In the textiles, footwear and sports equipment sector for medium-sized companies, the uvex group is on the winner's podium and occupies second place. In the overall industry ranking ("textiles, footwear and sports equipment production and trade") for all companies, the uvex group occupies an outstanding fifth place. We would like to thank you very much for your cooperation and your trust in us - only together is it possible to reach the winner's podium, which we have once again demonstrated!
Luge World Cup at Königsee and Ugly Sweater?
What does a Ugly Sweater have to do with the Luge World Cup at Königsee?
Traditionally, the Ugly Sweater Contest was part of this year's uvex Xmas Party. The winners with the most unusual Christmas sweater could look forward to a weekend in a Hotel at Königssee including VIP tickets to the Luge World Cup. Packed in a "double sweater", the two girls from HR/Employer Branding won.
On Saturday morning and with wild snow flurries they started towards Berchtesgaden. Picked up by the VIP shuttle and brought to the hut, they could walk alone the whole luge run and cheer on the athletes in every bend. Felix Loch, Natalie Geisenberger and many other luger were also there. At the finish line there was a reception for the luger and a supporting programme with bands, interviews and various activities. In the women's individual race the German Julia Taubitz won, in the men's race the German Reinhard Egger. Because of the current weather conditions and the huge amount of snow, the race had to be stopped. Also a German team won the team luge.
Sarah "The event was really like a family reunion - everybody knows everybody and there is a great atmosphere. You're so close that you could easily shake hands with the luge runners while passing by. With about 120km/h you shouldn't do that of course. Between the races we could warm up thanks to the VIP passes in the luge house and get to know some of the athletes like the winner Julia Taubitz personally".
New COO at the uvex sports group
We would like to extend a warm welcome to commercial director Dr Michael Dannhauser in the new position of Chief Operating Officer (COO) at the uvex sports group. Alongside Christophe Weissenberger, he will form the division’s senior management team. A Doctor of Business Management, Dannhauser will assume management responsibility for the uvex sports group’s manufacturing plants in Germany and abroad in addition to overseeing the areas of Finance/Controlling, Operations and Processes.
Following the departure by mutual consent of our previous CFO in February 2018, our search for a successor has been deliberately focused on a COO. We are proud of our long-standing manufacturing expertise which makes our winter sports, cycling and equestrian products so safe and innovative.
The new position of COO is even more heavily orientated towards the increased demands on operational processes within and between our manufacturing plants as well as between the operational areas active along the entire value chain. In Dr Michael Dannhauser, uvex has an accomplished commercial director on board. With wide-ranging experience and extensive expert knowledge, he is sure to be a huge asset. These are valuable qualities which will allow Dr Michael Dannhauser to introduce renewed impetus in his area of responsibility, with the result that further progress can be made in the uvex sports group’s efforts to improve process efficiency.
Dr Michael Dannhauser's most notable professional positions include roles at Rosenthal AG in Selb, the Raps Group in Kulmbach and W. Schillig, a furniture upholstery manufacturer in Ebersdorf, where he most recently held the position of CFO.
The ability to work as part of a team was particularly important to us. With his pleasant and down-to-earth demeanour, we are convinced that Dr Michael Dannhauser shares the uvex corporate and management values in full. We look forward to attaining the corporate goals defined by the uvex sports group and its respective uvex and ALPINA brands.
All the best in your new role Dr. Dannhauser!
uvex group Christmas party 2018
From 16:15 hrs there was a lot of activity at the Sportpark Thomas Sommer, because the first of the 800 expected guests have already arrived. The mulled wine reception in the winterly decorated outdoor area offered the best opportunity to get in the mood for the following programme. In addition to the opening speech by Mr. Michael Winter, managing partner of the uvex group, Karl Platt, German professional mountain biker and his manager Friedemann Schmude were interviewed. The supporting programme was rounded off by a "Ugly-Christmas-Sweater"-Contest, which was won outstandingly by our HR-/AGM-Duo. The winners can now look forward to a voucher for a weekend in Berchtesgaden including VIP tickets for the luge World Cup.
Our managing directors also did not let themselves be lumpen and proved their musical talent! Attractions such as table football, photo lightbox, foot billiards or caricature drawing provided variety. The buffet left nothing to be desired and so it was possible to celebrate, and dance strengthened with the best musical entertainment of the band "Lauschrausch" or to hits from the 80s, 90s and 2000s mixed by DJ Frank Sonique.
The Afterparty took place at disco Frieda in the city center of Fürth, starting from 21:30 and attracted still over 280 guests, who let the evening end into the late hours.
Of course, the good cause wasn't neglected either and about 2.800,00 Euro were collected for the benefit of three selected projects of the Rainer Winter Foundation. As announced in advance, this amount was doubled by the uvex group and rounded up to a fabulous 10,000.00 Euros thanks to a private donation. A winner was drawn from the lots sold, who can now also look forward to a voucher for a weekend including VIP tickets for the Women's Alpine Skiing World Cup in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
We would like to thank all those involved who made this Christmas party an unforgettable experience, those who went all the way to Fürth and above all the organization team for the great implementation and great organization, as well as the shareholder family and the managing directors of the subgroups who made a celebration on this large scale possible. Thank you very much!
The canteen thanks for the loyalty of the employees
While we have the traditional Christmas Stollen at Christmas time in Germany, the Italians enjoy the most popular Christmas pastry: Panettone. Original from Milan, the airy-sweet Italian Stollen comes to the uvexeria today.
Today the uvexeria team thanked all guests with a special gesture. Panettone were given away as a small thank-you for their loyalty throughout the year. On average, 200 guests visit our canteen at lunchtime every day. There they are spoilt for choice between a vegetarian dish, a fish dish or a meat dish. And because we attach particular importance to health, there is of course a side salad from the buffet and drinks with the menu. For the caffeine kick after the meal you can use the coffee bar.
uvex subsidises the canteen from its own resources so that the employees can enjoy their lunch as cheaply as possible, but at a high quality.
Christmas party for pensioners 2018
Since 1990, uvex has organised a Christmas party at the Headquarter in Fürth forpensioners who receive a company pension from the uvex pension scheme. Many former employees are closely associated with uvex due to their long period of employment. The Christmas party gives them the opportunity to talk to former colleagues in a relaxed atmosphere over coffee and cake. Of course, current news from the uvex group are also of interest, which is why Michael Winter, managing partner, and Georg Höfler, CFO of the uvex group, are reporting on the economic situation of the company.
Up to 50 pensioners take part in the event every year, including Mrs Lechner: "For me, the pensioners Christmas party is a fixed event in my calendar every year. I was employed at uvex for 30 years and like to remember back to this time. It is particularly nice to see my old colleagues again, to exchange ideas and to hear what has changed. My daughter also works here, by the way!
uvex says 'Thank you!'
"On behalf of the shareholder family, I would like to thank all our employees worldwide for the fact that together we have walked the path to the podium and can look back on a successful 2018. Our thanks also go to all of the uvex group's business partners, who also played their part in ensuring that we were again able to fulfil our promise of 'protecting people' this year. For the Christmas season, we wish you a peaceful time to recharge your batteries and recover, but also time to get in the mood for the upcoming year. Thank you very much for your confidence in us and the uvex brand".
With best regards
International Volunteer Day
This motto is reflected not only in the DNA of the uvex group, but also in its employees. For many, it is important to carry the idea of protecting people beyond working hours and to help other people with their work. Mrs. Nachtmann-Leitl, optician in our optician shop, regularly spends her free time in Nepal to support a project of the association "Vision for the world e. V.". In this interview, you can find out what motivates Mrs. Nachtmann-Leitl to and what her work exactly looks like.
Christmas present for the employees
"Christmas bonus shows appreciation", was the title of the Nürnberger Nachrichten (article) about the payment of Christmas bonus to companies in the region. The Advent season has begun. We are pleased that this year, as many years before, we will be able to pay a Christmas bonus, even more than the collectively agreed amount. What has not been taken for granted by many companies for a long time, we are trying to maintain - for example during the global economic crisis 2008 / 2009. After all, the esteem in which we hold our employees should be reflected not only interpersonal but also financial. The Christmas bonus is, in addition to the holiday bonus, a component of our "benefits" and, along with many other fringe benefits, is one of the offers we offer you as an employer. You can find out what else we can offer you here.
Apprenticeship at the uvex group
In our motto week „apprenticeship at uvex group “we’d love to show, how diverse an apprenticeship can be, who the faces behind our apprentices are and what it means to be apprenticed at uvex group.
Today, we’re introducing Lea. Lea is 16 years old and it’s her first year as an apprentice. She’s not trained for a “classic office occupation”, she is the first electronics technician to be trained at uvex group.
What do apprentices experience at the uvex group?
Those who decide to train at the uvex group opt for diversity and variety.
Chiara, 18, is currently completing her apprenticeship as an industrial clerk was part of the team dressing the ÖSV athletes. The apprenticeship also includes tasks such as these.
Day of Prayer and Repentance
Every year on the Day of Prayer and Repentance, we offer our employees the opportunity to register their children between the ages of 5 and 10 for our childcare program. This offer is always very popular - not only by parents and children, but also by our apprentices. They are responsible for designing and implementing the entire supporting program and also for taking care of the children.
This year´s motto of the day was "Creativity and Movement". In addition to making mandalas and Christmas baubles, our apprentice Johnny rehearsed a dance together with the children. You can see that Johnny, who has danced professionally on a national level for many years, has proven his expertise here.
"For the trainees it is not only the "normal everyday life", the training brings with it, but also a great opportunity to creatively deal with the planning of an event. Organisation and coordination are mainly the responsibility of the apprentices. They learn to structure themselves and to find a common denominator in the team. The nice thing is that our apprentices are very well networked with each other and such tasks also strengthen the network. Of course they are supported in planning, but the aim is to learn to take on responsibility and to encourage the trainees to work independently. I also did my apprenticeship at the uvex group and enjoy looking back on my time there. It is simply a good thing that as an apprentice you can and may also take on these tasks. You learn a lot," says Julia Scheuerpflug, HR Assistant HR / Family Policy.
Every year the uvex group hosts the Rainer Winter Foundation's popular Advent bazaar. This is just one of many events that our apprentices are allowed to organize and supervise during their training. At the bazaar, our apprentices sell goods donated by employees, books, pastries and much more for a good cause. The total proceeds will be donated to the Rainer Winter Foundation.
In the year 2017 a sum of 5.000 € was collected, which was donated to the Fürth children's home St. Michael for the design of a group room. Our apprentices sold more than 100 packets of Elisen gingerbread from the Rummelsberger Bäckerei, 120 handmade wooden and ceramic articles from the Rummelsberger Werkstätten in the Auhof, as well as around 50 uvex products from sports and occupational safety last year.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank our apprentices who support this campaign so actively and in such large numbers every year and our employees who support a good project every year anew with a purchase or donations in kind (e.g. books).

Seelandmarathon - Johannes Thiem for the uvex group
Our work is dedicated to protecting people.
Company events such as the Fürth company race or the biathlon relay are well received at uvex. But private sporting activities are also support by the company health management by paying the entry fees.
Johannes Thiem, Product Development Manager at the uvex safety group, accepted the offer and completed his annual sports highlight, the Seelandmarathon, for the uvex group:
"The Brombachsee run is an annual sporting highlight for me. The landscape by the lake and the good atmosphere at the event are unmistakable. Unfortunately I did not reach my desired time this year, which was a bit annoying. My running time for the half marathon was just under 2 hours. But also a bad time, spurs on for the coming year."
Childcare at the uvex group on the Day of Prayer and Repentance
Our child care on the day of prayer and repentance was a great success again this year! Besides dancing and handicrafts, our trainees came up with a lot of ideas. You will see more about the trainee work next week.
Here's an impression of our dance stars of tomorrow!
EMS training at the uvex group
To prevent classic office pain such as back, shoulder and neck pain, we offer EMS (Electronic Muscle Stimulation) training. The functional training sessions improve posture, prevent classic pain and it is fun!
We promote this health measure within the framework of company health management (more information here). With a share in the total costs of over 30%. The training units take place in our office in Fürth and those who cannot join, can make up for it at our partner, the Training Lounge Nuremberg, at any time.
More about EMS-Training can be found here
Ding dong! – Kettlebell-Training at the uvex group
Our work is dedicated to protecting people
According to the motto we also protect the health of our employees.
Within the framework of occupational health management (more) there is something new, the Kettlebell training course, which is held by a professional trainer and extends over 10 units. And the best? uvex pays about 40% of the total cost per participant.
What is Kettlebell Training? The so-called "kettlebells" are used in whole-body training and are ideal for strengthening and building up muscles and stretching tendons. Our muscle strands and tendons are shortened, especially by sitting for long periods at the workplace - pain in the back, neck and shoulder area is the result. The exercises with the kettlebell vary and are a mix of swing and strength exercises. The Kettlebells are available in different weight classes, so it is guaranteed not to be boring during training!
If you want to know exactly what you are getting into, you will find examples here.
Childcare at uvex on the Day of Prayer and Repentance
It is not always easy to combine career and family. During the holidays or on public holidays there is sometimes no child care when the day nursery, kindergarten or school is closed.
Every year, uvex therefore offers the care of employee children on the day of Prayer and Repentance. As a family-friendly company, this is a matter of course and part of our corporate culture. The compatibility of work and family is very important to us. The employee children aged 5-10 are looked after, cared for and of course entertained from 7 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. uvex offers a colourful supporting programme. This year, there will be handicrafts, dancing, an Olympic Game and, of course, healthy and tasty food in the uvexeria canteen between the events.
The uvex group as host at the BGF Network Meeting
Our work is dedicated to protecting people.
The uvex group works closely with various health insurance funds to create attractive workplace health promotion schemes (BGF). Twice a year, representatives of the AOK and companies in the region meet to exchange information on new developments in occupational health management and thus create the best employee offer for their company.
On 6 November 2018, the uvex group hosted 17 representatives from various industries. Sarah Galonska, co-responsible for the health management team, was delighted with the active participation and the results of the day: "It is important for us to always be able to offer our employees something new and to be in contact with other companies, networking has become incredibly important! We are therefore always up to date and can expand our BGF offer with new experiences, always optimise and get suggestions on how to integrate "health" even better into the working world. It is always nice to learn that we are already very well positioned as an employer and that our varied programme is an inspiration for other companies. This shows us that we are on the right track."
The goal of occupational health management at the uvex group is to protect and promote our employees. You can find out what we offer our employees here during the course of the week.

Works meeting of the uvex group
The annual works meeting took place on 13 November 2018 at the Headquater in Fürth. In addition to the general works council, the managing partner, Michael Winter, the trade union secretary of IG-BCE (Industrial union Mining/Chemicals/Energy), Sabrina Emrich and Dr. Eibl-Eibesfeldt, as representative of the Erler Klinik Nürnberg (health care) talked to about 500 employees of the uvex group.
The uvex group's General Work Council gave a lecture to around 500 employees from all locations on topics relating to benefits and cooperation with other companies (e.g. Selgros or the leisure pool "Fürther Mare"), on the various training occupations at the uvex group, as well as on collective agreements and collective bargaining rounds.
The managing partner, Mr. Michael Winter, reported on the positive business development of the uvex group and on upcoming projects for the entire group. In particular, the "Hardhöhe" location concept (location Fürth ) was presented. According to him, our mission - protecting people - our contribution to the protection of society in sport, work and leisure - stands above all. This mission applies not only to the outside world, but also within the company. We are "constantly working on being a good employer for our employees". The fact that this pays off is demonstrated by the fact that we have again been named "Top National Employer 2018".
His thanks go to all employees for "the great brand work of each individual and the development into a strong employer brand". With the quote "Working hard for something you don't care about is called stress. Working hard for something you love is called passion", Michael Winter handed over to the IG-BCE representative, who spoke on the subject of trade unions.
The meeting was closed by the representative of the Erlerklinik in Nuremberg, Dr. Eibl-Eibesfeldt, who dealt with the topic of health care and was thus able to make a contribution to our company health management.
uvex against blood cancer - DKMS donation campaign
In Germany, a person is diagnosed with blood cancer every 15 minutes and often no suitable donor is found. Following our mission of protecting people, we gave our employees the opportunity last week to register in the DKMS database to save the lives of patients with blood cancer.
We would like to thank all our employees. 86 of them have registered. Those are 86 chances for leukaemia ill ones. Many thanks!
Only a few minutes were needed to become a donor and thus a lifesaver. A cheek swab with the help of three cotton swabs is enough. These samples were sent to the laboratory to find out whether one of the uvex employees could be considered as a genetic twin of a patient suffering from blood cancer and thus as a donor. The tissue characteristics must match. If there is actually a match and a donation, there are two possibilities. With peripheral stem cell donation, which is carried out in 80% of cases, the stem cells are filtered out of the bloodstream on an outpatient basis. With bone marrow donation, bone marrow is removed from the iliac crest under general anesthesia. Just a few days later, a patient may be given the chance of a second life thanks to this donation.
More information and how you can become a stem cell donor can be found here: www.dkms.de/de
uvex against blood cancer – DKMS Donation Day
In keeping with our mission of protecting people, we are offering all uvex group employees the opportunity to register as potential donors in the DKMS database for bone marrow donors on 8 November 2018 as part of our occupational health management programme. All that is required is a cheek swab to determine whether one of the uvex employees is a potential genetic twin of a blood cancer patient and therefore a potential donor. Among other things, the blood groups must match. So it only takes a few seconds to save a life in the end.
Our shareholder Michael Winter and the CFO Georg Höfler are the patrons and have demonstrated it right away.
uvex apprentices trip
Last Thursday our 40 uvex apprentices and their mentors started their annual trip together. The two days started with two interesting factory tours in Lederdorn and Nyrsko. Afterwards they went to the western town Pullman City, where the night was spent in traditional log cabins.
On Friday the apprentices had the chance to show of their skills as a cowgirl / cowboy by competing in challenges like throwing cowboy boots or in archery.
Everybody had a lot of fun!

The uvex group corporate value: responsible
"The basis for a trustful cooperation is mutual respect. It does not matter what position you occupy in the company. It is at least just as important to have a certain scope for action in the area of responsibility assigned. We can only act responsibly if we are given the opportunity to do so. Managers should have an open ear for the problems, but also the suggestions of employees, take them seriously and respond to them".

Family Day at uvex safety gloves
On August 18th, uvex safety gloves hosted a great family event! All family members were invited to experience the uvex spirit by joining either a Junior Tour or a factory tour under the theme “experience and innovation”. The children had a lot of fun experiencing the two giant bouncy castles, a children's bike course and two test grounds for fatbikes and e-bikes. A wide range of food trucks provided great food and beverages during the whole day. Due to that event our mission protecting people got present to every participant.

Digitalisation of personal files
In close cooperation with the Boxdorfer Werkstätten in Nuremberg the HR department turns into a digital workplace.
The Boxdorfer Werkstätten are a social institution, which takes in particular care of the concerns of adult people with disabilities to enable a meaningful day organization and thus enables a participation in the working life. In our project, the employees of the institution take over the professional scanning of the personnel files, so that they are then available to the HR team of the uvex group in digital form.
At the end of the project, the uvex group handed over the employees of the Boxdorfer Werkstätten, as a thank you for their excellent work, uvex branded T-shirts.

uvex sports receives German Brand Award in Gold
For its 2018 "Look for a winner" campaign, uvex was awarded the German Brand Award in Gold in the category "Industry Excellence in Branding - Sports".
According to the jury's statement, "uvex has been supplying equipment for Olympic athletes since 1972 and each time releases a special collection of helmets and ski goggles for the games. The campaign color gold and the motto "Look for a winner" for the Olympics 2018, allowed the brand to approach the games in winner colors. It was a powerful and simple idea that was cleverly implemented both formally and in terms of content, and attracted attention while at the same time claiming the high quality of the products and the brand. "
